Engagement Volunteer at Weston Museum – Role Description

Do you enjoy talking to people? Join our volunteer team and help us make a difference. We are looking for suitable volunteers to assist with the engagement work we are undertaking in order to better understand our audience and ensure our visitors are at the heart of Weston Museum.

Volunteer tasks:

You will use a variety of data gathering tools to understand and engage with our visitors. You will be given all the appropriate training and supported by our Front of House team.

Your role will be to encourage visitors to take part in interviews and questionnaires; this will include proactively approaching visitors to gain information and feedback that will be recorded either on a tablet or on paper following a structured method.
Volunteers will need to remain courteous, professional and positive in their approach to evaluation and understand that they will be seen by the public as representing the museum.

  • Gain cultural sector contacts within a supportive environment Skills required: Volunteers from all backgrounds and experience are welcome, especially those who have an interest in working in the museum and heritage sector, audience development, visitor studies or market research. Volunteers should be approachable, able to communicate with a variety of audiences and have good listening skills. Much of the time you will be working unsupervised, while also representing the museum to members of the public. This role requires volunteers to be on their feet for some of the time.

Potential time involvement: Evaluation takes place during the normal opening hours of the museum, 10am – 5pm; a typical shift for this role will be two hours.

Responsible to: Matthew Holden, Visitor Services Supervisor.

Training and Support: Full training will be given alongside ongoing support from staff and other volunteers as needed. Out of pocket expenses are paid.
